Amazon Adds iOS Support To GameCircle And Whispersync For Games For Cross-Platform Saves And Leaderboards

Amazon has announced an update for its GameCircle and Whispersync for Games services for mobile gaming apps today, which introduces iOS support. That means that Amazon’s GameCircle, which offers achievement tracking for mobile apps, and WhisperSync for Games, which makes it so that a mobile gamer’s progress goes with them as they move from device to device, will all now be able to work on both Android and iOS hardware, including the iPhone and iPad.

This is actually a pretty big deal, since the new GameCircle version two service will now work across Kindle Fire, any other Android devices, iOS (and it works with, rather than conflicting with, Game Center integration) for all features, including brand new auto-conflict resolutions which means that even when data about progress comes in from multiple versions of the game out of order (due perhaps to connection delays and other problems), the Whispersync service…

U.N. report: Abuses on both sides of Syrian civil war

A new United Nations report affirms that both sides in the Syrian civil war have committed grave crimes in violation of international law.

Government forces continue to attack civilian populations in what amounts to crimes against humanity, says the report by the U.N. Human Rights Council, which was released Wednesday.

But anti-government groups, in their fight against President Bashar al-Assad, have themselves committed war crimes, including murder, torture and hostage-taking, the report states.

As the fighting rages, “it is civilians who continue to pay the price for the failure to negotiate an end to this conflict,” the agency said in a prepared statement.

Amazon launches Kindle, Kindle Store and self-publishing platform in Mexico

Kindle is now available in Mexico: On Thursday, Amazon (s AMZN) launched the Mexican Kindle Store. It’s also selling the basic Kindle and front-lit Kindle Paperwhite through Mexican chain store Gandhi. And it opened its digital self-publishing platform, Kindle Direct Publishing, up to Mexicans.

“The vast majority of Mexicans do not have access to a bookstore in their town, so we’re happy to launch the Mexico Kindle Store today and bring a huge bookstore with over 2 million titles to anyone with an Internet connection,” Pedro Huerta, director of Kindle Content for Latin America, said in a statement.

The Mexican Kindle Store includes over 70,000 Spanish-language ebooks, including some in Mexican indigenous languages like Nahuatl. As an introductory offer, Amazon is selling over 1,000 ebooks for MXN$9 or less (USD $0.68).
